Category info and actions
A category is used to classify articles and / or assemblies throughout RentMagic. Within the process, articles can be indicated, which can be used by first selecting a category, after which you can search through the category for articles. Categories can also be used to filter on a frontend (webshop or website). The difference with article groups is that an article can be linked to one or more categories. Categories can also be created at different levels, with which you can set up a tree structure.
If you define categories for a frontend (webshop or website), you must classify all articles in at least one category. Otherwise, these items will not be visible to customers.

The overview of the categories will now be opened.
On the left side of the screen you will see an overview of all existing categories, in the tree structure as they are known. The structure is infinite, with which you determine how many levels you want to create. Click on one category to open it. The details of the category are shown to the right of the overview. At the top you will find the fields of the category.
If you want to add a category, first select the category in which you want to add the new category. Then click new
When adding a category, make sure it is as clear as possible. Categories are precisely created to allow users or customers to easily search or filter for articles. So it goes without saying that the categories should be "self-explanatory". Make sure that the category is filled as completely as possible within RentMagic during creation. It is best to build a tree structure with not too many levels, depending of course on the number of articles you create in RentMagic.
When you have entered all the fields, click on save to save the category. After saving, the category detail screen remains open.
After saving, the category is created. Do not forget to open and scroll through the corresponding tabs to further supplement the information surrounding the category.
If you want to edit an existing category, click the category in the overview of the categories. The detail screen will then be opened where you can make the changes.
Category structures may change from time to time. Or you want to create additional categories because your range has been expanded. A reason to change a category.
When you have made the changes in the category detail screen, click on save to save the data. The changes will take effect immediately. This may also be visible on a frontend (webshop or website). Take this into account.
After you have made the changes, it is advisable to go through the corresponding tabs.
If you want to change the structure of the categories, it is sometimes necessary to delete a category. Keep in mind that when you delete a category, you also delete the category indicated on the articles. This means that when creating new categories you will also have to assign the articles again. This can sometimes be a nice job. In some situations it is therefore easier to change a category description.
To really delete a category, select the relevant category in the overview. Then click delete in the category detail screen to permanently delete the category. The process is irreversible.
